Youth Leadership Initiative

With 2010 elections just around the corner, I thought it was great timing to share this fabulous website.

The Youth Leadership Initiative (YLI) provides civic education classroom resources to teachers and home school parents absolutely FREE OF CHARGE.

YLI is a national civic education program designed to involve students in the American electoral and policymaking process. YLI offers technology-based civic education resources that foster long-term civic engagement.

Homeschoolers, public schools, and private schools can participate in the YLI.

By signing up, you receive a username and password that allows full access to the YLI website.

Each fall, the Youth Leadership Initiative conducts the largest secure, student-only, online mock election in the nation, using electronic ballots tailored to each student’s home legislative district. The 2010 Mock Election will run from October 18-28 with results being posted on October 29.

On top of the educational and interactive mock election there are a wealth of very fun and engaging lesson plans that reach out to students in K-12.  Check out the List of Lesson Plans.
