Dyslexia

Below are two great sites that a friend and reading specialist brought to my attention. Helping people become aware about dyslexia is critical in helping our children. There is so much misinformation out there, and it’s important that people know the facts based on research and not what they have heard over the years.

  1. I agree that there are so much misinformation out there. The biggest misinformation is the statement that "Dyslexics have a phonological awareness deficit".
I have been teaching dyslexics for more than 5 years and I have done enough research to know that dyslexics do not have a phonological awareness deficit.
Dyslexics have a problem learning to read only in orthographically inconsistent languages such as the English language. They can read fluently in orthographically consistent languages like Finnish, Italian, Tamil, Malay and many other languages.
