Thanks for sharing your thoughts Alisha. I agree with you: we should be embracing innovation in education instead of being afraid of change and something new. So glad you found a great fit for your son.

Great article! You really pieced everything together really well. I'm so glad to see people standing up for online learning. Online learning is something "different" and we all know people are afraid of something different. Instead of learning about it, they ignorantly become against it.
My son was in regular public school and was struggling severely. He is a severe dyslexic and also has epilepsy. He has learned more in the 6 months with K-12 than he did the 3 years in public school. It has been the best feeling I have ever felt watching him learn and grow and be curious about the world around him. He is no longer confused about everything and has confidence again! COVA through K-12 has been the best decision I have ever made.

Great comment Kat! And I completely agree with the way you think: Parents nation-wide should have the virtual school option available to them.

Just recently one of my friends was complaining about her daughter, who is 6, having to go to school on a day when a storm was expected. She kept her home because she was more afraid of a bus accident or getting stranded at the school. Her question on Facebook , "Am I wrong to keep her home because I fear for her safety?" One of her friends replied to her, that was her reason for homeschooling her children. Some parents don't think they have the ability to homeschool their children. A virtual school though, would be a better answer! I think it should be a nation wide option.

So true Tillie. My youngest just finished her live instruction and is moving on to Algebra. My younger son kept an eye on the weather and took advantage of completing all of his weeks’ worth of work so he would have today off.

Thanks for sharing your story today, Amy. Like you, I'm grateful for the public school options that are available to us in our state. I only hope that some day very soon, this effective online schooling option becomes available to every child in every state.

Yes, during the high school years this is a great resource for subjects which may be more difficult to teach, speaking as a homeschooler. I did college on line through Colorado Technical University, I wanted to go back to school, but wanted to be at home for my children. This was the perfect college for me because they utilized all of the learning styles to teach. I am a hands on learner, but it was nice to have the same information giving to me in various ways I understood things a whole lot more. I also took one class at a time which allowed me to totally focus on one topic and get better grades than I had ever gotten in school. Thanks for the input, hopped over from the Blog Frog.
